The Anchor of History

Its hard for me to paint Jesus, because its difficult to capture the things you love most.
This painting came from a place of admiring Jesus through all our Biblical history. There is no story he is not tied to, and nothing formed that he has not been foundational within. I wanted to create something that spoke to how ingrained he is within the very fibers of the faithful history that led to salvation. Where many think he is the final chapter, its the most beautiful experience to look through the Scriptures and see his presence everywhere. The signs, the arrows pointing, the hidden mysteries leading to his life and death.
Though its hard to see in parts, the painting is strewn with significant landmarks. The mountain represents all the great mountains of Biblical history. The mountain of Moses and the burning bush, the mountain of Abraham, Issac, and sacred places where man encounters God, deep within the holy lands.
I placed Bethlehem, Jesusalem and the boats of Galilee. The gold inlays within the water, are the rivers connected to Eden.
As a whole, this painting is to represent how Jesus life, death, and love, are the cornerstone of all history past, and all hope for the future. His love is the anchor of what will make all things new and there is no aspect of life in which he is not molded. This is why I sculpted Jesus into the very mountain, and within the banks of the sea. His life is folded into life itself, and where we must always look for his beauty everywhere, so also we must recognize his sacrifice. He was strung up and laid over sin, so that we might know the truth of life.
